Amazakoue

Trade name:

Ovengkol, Amazoue, Whimawe, Hyedua, Anokye

Origin:

Gabon, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, the Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Nigeria

Color:

The heartwood and sapwood differ clearly from each other: the freshly cut sapwood shows a whitish yellow coloring which turns to grayish brown when dry. The heartwood fluctuates from yellowish brown to darkish brown.

Characteristics:

The stripy wood is not always entirely a straight grain, but can exhibit a flame-like character and a velvety shimmer. This wood is highly sought after owing to its striking, dark veins.

Application:

Veneer for furniture, mosaic parquet or artistic cabinets. Used as a substitute for walnut in interior finishing.

Did you know ...

... that managed forests, thanks to their high proportion of young, strong, growing trees, enable CO2 to be extracted?

... that an old, unmanaged forest produces as much CO2 through processes of decomposition and decay as it stores, and that therefore an unmanaged forest contributes nothing to reducing global CO2?
