Makore, figured

Additional names:

African Pear wood, Cherry Mahogan

Origin:

Wet locations in the evergreen forests of Africa (Eastern Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana)

Color:

Light, pale pink to yellowish sapwood which strongly differs from the pale reddish brown to dark crimson-brown heartwood.

Characteristics:

In contrast to the plain "straight grain", the texture of figured Makore is "flamed" or "figured" due to an irregular, short-waved fiber pattern.

Application:

Sliced veneer for the furniture industry (bedroom furniture), but also for doors.

Did you know ...

... that managed forests, thanks to their high proportion of young, strong, growing trees, enable CO2 to be extracted?

... that an old, unmanaged forest produces as much CO2 through processes of decomposition and decay as it stores, and that therefore an unmanaged forest contributes nothing to reducing global CO2?
