Sapelli

Origin:

Throughout West Africa (from Liberia to Angola, eastward to Central Africa)

Color:

Initially pink, Sapelli darkens in time to a deep red-brown. Character of the grain: Depending on the type of cut, interesting effects can be achieved: quarter-slicing yields a plain veneer pattern with the glossy stripes typical of Sapelli, flat slicing yields veneer with a flowery structure.

Sapelli enables a room to have an exotic touch of African atmosphere; can also be used as an intentional contrast to modern elements.

Application:

Sapelli is an exotic, although in no way rare, type of wood. In the furniture, door and paneling sector, the classical flat- and quarter-sliced veneer is used. Sapelli is an interesting alternative to light-colored oak and beech flooring in the parquet sector.

Did you know ...

... that managed forests, thanks to their high proportion of young, strong, growing trees, enable CO2 to be extracted?

... that an old, unmanaged forest produces as much CO2 through processes of decomposition and decay as it stores, and that therefore an unmanaged forest contributes nothing to reducing global CO2?
